Indonesia
is a
country in Southeast Asia, the largest archipelago in the world with over 13,000 islands (of which less than half are inhabited), the fourth most populous country and the first Muslim-majority countries .The division of
Indonesia is usually following the main islands that compose it. West is found
in the following regions:
Sumatra (Riau Islands, Bangka-Belitung)
Wild and rugged, the seventh largest island in the world
has a huge natural and cultural heritage with more than 40 million people and
is home to many endangered species.
Kalimantan (on Borneo island)
The fourth largest island in the world is mostly in
Indonesia. With a huge unexplored jungle, rivers rushing and orangutans, this
island is a paradise for adventurers.
Java (and Madura)
An overcrowded island, economic heart of the country, with
major cities including the capital Jakarta, Bandung, and cultural treasures as
Yogyakarta, Borobudur and Prambanan.
Bali
By far the most visited island in Indonesia, with a unique
culture, legendary beaches, spectacular mountains and a fabulous underwater
world, the island remains a favorite destination for travelers worldwide.
Lombok
Of these 5,500 km2, Lombok is home to the third highest
volcano in Indonesia, Mount Rinjani. The slopes of the volcano covering much of
the island, Lombok has the distinction of having a very fertile land. It is
nicknamed the "rice granary" of Indonesia, or the island of
"chilli" (meaning chili Lombok Indonesian).
The local population, the Sasak are predominantly Muslim,
from the branch of Wektu Telu, advocating a very moderate Islam, mixed with
animist beliefs and ancient tribal tradition. Rich cultural mix. Lombok has
many other nicknames, such as "little sister of Bali". Many agree
that Lombok is like Bali 20 years ago. She did not finish enchants you ... In
the south of the island of white sand beaches almost virgin, mountainous
terrain protecting more beautiful than the other turquoise bays, gorgeous and
untouched seabed, and for fans, beautiful waves. In the north, innumerable
small trekking amidst beautiful rice paddies, to the discovery of waterfalls,
small villages outside of time, and of course, the local population
unforgettable smiles. For insiders, the beautiful trekking Mount Rinjani ... a

Sulawesi (or Celebes)
Oddly shaped, this island has a great ethnic and cultural
diversity, spectacular scenery, Toraja culture, wildlife and a rich dive sites
world-renowned flora.
Nusa Tenggara (or Small Sunda Islands in Lombok, Komodo, Flores)
Literally "islands southeast" contain a large
number of ethnic groups, languages, religions and the Komodo dragon and
spectacular dives.
Maluku (or Moluccas)
Historically known as the Spice Islands, recovering from
several recent conflicts, these islands remain largely unexplored and unknown
to the rest of the world.
Papua (or Papua, formerly Irian Jaya)
The western part of the island of New Guinea with
mountains, forests, swamps, impenetrable wilderness in one of the world's most
remote regions.
